I mentioned a couple days ago there are a few oils
you don't want to be without...
And... when I say, 'don't want to be without,' I mean
you want to have them with you ALWAYS...
... because these oils are so useful, and have so
many applications, they always come in handy.
The first of these “must have” oils is peppermint
–
or if you prefer, Mentha piperita.
Due to its main ingredient, menthol, peppermint
has a fresh and familiar aroma.
Just about everyone I know likes the smell of
peppermint – think candy canes.
But even more than its pleasing aroma... peppermint
is appreciated for its many practical uses.
Over the years I've seen lists showing
different uses
of peppermint – with some of them numbering at
least 25 or more.
But to make things simple, here are my top ten
favorite uses for this 'must have' essential oil.
Supports normal digestive function... great
if you suffer any kind of stomach or intestinal
upset.
Promotes good circulation... especially
handy for those who experience headaches.
Supports sinus health... inhaling or diffusing
for just a short time can help those suffering
from allergies, colds, coughs, bronchitis,
sinusitis and asthma.
Serves as a natural joint and muscle rub...
bringing comfort for common soreness.
Helps control the appetite... because of the way
it provides a sense of fullness.
Increases energy and alertness... just a couple
whiffs can stimulate you and give you greater focus.
Cools the skin... due to heat or fever.
Soothes itching... from hot, sweaty skin, rashes,
sunburn and bug bites.
Repels bugs... when used directly on skin or as
a barrier at an outdoor dining table.
Freshens the breath...
something everyone can use
now and then!
These reasons make peppermint essential oil the oil I find
myself using more than any other.
And there are a couple of reasons I like to take it with me...
For one, my kids like it, so if we're out and about, they
won't hesitate to take a little peppermint if
needed...
And, peppermint is great for sharing with those who have
no experience with essential oils because of its familiar
aroma.
Peppermint is so versatile and so easy to apply, if I could
only choose one oil to take with me, it would likely be
the one.
What would I take as a second oil?
We'll cover that next time.
For your best
health,
