Many years ago I knew someone who
had a signature phrase for everyone he had any kind of difficulty with.
He'd call them 'a piece of work.'
So he'd say things like, 'What a piece of work she is.'
Or 'Man, he sure is a piece of work.'
... And it was always said in a self-righteous, condescending
tone.
Not a great way to look at other people, for sure.
And far different than the way God views us as human beings.
God sees us as 'fearfully and wonderfully made.'
Marred by sin, of course.
But objects of his love, grace and mercy... to be transformed into creatures who serve and glorify Him.
In fact, he refers to those in Christ as 'His workmanship,' who have been created anew for good works that God has already prepared beforehand (Eph.2:10).
So yes, we are a 'piece of work.' But not in the sense most people might use the
phrase.
And adjusting our perspective to God's way of thinking can make all the difference when it comes to how we view people, and ourselves...
... and how well we accomplish the work God has for us to do.
