Why did God flood the earth in the days of
Noah?
If you were to answer something like, 'it was a form of judgment necessary to cleanse His creation of its sinfulness,' you'd be correct.
But the real reason goes deeper than than that... and it's worth noting.
You see...the more precise reason God brought the Great Flood is because mankind -- get this -- had totally corrupted
God's gift of imagination.
That's right -- imagination!
God gave humanity the ability to imagine so it could rule and cultivate the earth for His glory.
But that's not what was
happening.
Instead of using the imagination to consider and plan all the good that could be done in the world, humanity had perverted it and used it for all kinds of wickedness.
Or... as the old King James Version describes man... "every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil
continually" (Genesis 6:5).
Wow... 'only evil continually.'
So...
Because of the abuse of this power to imagine, God saw fit to wash the world and start over again with Noah and his
family.
Today, the power to imagine continues to play a vital role in fulfilling God's call on our lives.
And a big part of living as God intends is learning how to use our imagination as it was designed.
And, it's as we follow Christ and walk in His Spirit that we experience the kind of transformed imaginations we need.
