A lot of year end goal setting tends to center around
what we hope to achieve in the coming year.
But I'm inclined to think this has things backwards.
For one, most of what's going to happen in the year ahead is totally out of our control.
I remember a few years back I set some great goals for what I wanted to accomplish in the next 12 months.
And you know what?
I accomplished none of them!
And it wasn't due to lack of motivation or applying myself...
Rather, God brought some new variables my way.
This was frustrating and depressing at the time.
But eventually I realized something...
When you read the Bible, God doesn't say much about what He wants us to achieve.
But He says plenty about faithfulness and obedience and walking with Him.
Does this mean there's no place for achievement-oriented goals?
No, not at all.
We just have to remember God is more concerned with our character than our accomplishments.
And He will continually be shaking things up to shape us and our stories into what He wants them to be.
As we realize this, we can see the value of putting a priority on goals having to do with our
character over those having to do with our achievements.
And as we do, we just might be paving the way for our greatest successes.
