You've heard it said, "You are what you
eat."
There's truth in that.
But even more... you are what you meditate on!
God made us meditative creatures.
We are always turning ideas and images over in our hearts.
And as we do, it engraves pictures that shape what we
end up doing.
For example:
When David meditated on God and His law, it made him a mighty man... equipped to take down giants.
But when he meditated on Bathsheba taking a bath on a rooftop, it turned him into an adulterer and murderer.
From this failure David discovered how
important it is to choose well what you meditate on.
And he prayed that the 'meditation of his heart' would be acceptable in God's sight (Ps. 19:24).
What we spend our time meditating on molds the kind of people we become.
Meditate on our lusts, resentments and fears, and it takes us down a path of rotten
fruit.
But if we dwell on what is true and honorable and right and pure, God shows us the way to fulfill His design for our lives.
