What a life submitted to God's sovereignty can do...

Published: Fri, 12/15/17

The great theologian, pastor, and author R.C. Sproul has died.

At a recent conference Dr. Sproul was asked how he coped with his suffering from the medical issues he had been facing over the past couple of years.

He first responded by humbly saying that there were others who had been suffering a lot more than he had.

But then he added something that provides a lot of insight into Dr. Sproul’s source of strength and influence.

He mentioned that he started every day by reading the 23rd Psalm… and that he trusted God as the shepherd of his life and believed that He was sovereign over every detail of his life. And he added that because of this he was not afraid of anything.

Dr. Sproul wrote in detail about the total sovereignty of God in one of my favorite books, “Chosen by God.”

I learned a ton from that book.

But the significant thing is that Sproul’s belief in God’s complete sovereignty over life was not just academic.

He lived it. And taught by his example what a life totally surrendered to the sovereign rule of God can become.

Thanks for the lesson Dr. Sproul.
