Man, there sure have been a lot of scandals in the news
lately.
Especially sex scandals.
And they don't just involve high profile people like movie producers and politicians.
They involve a lot of ordinary people... like teachers.
And people caught doing it in place like theaters and fast food
restaurants.
Yuck.
Depressing, no doubt.
In fact... I saw a story yesterday that people are so sick of hearing this kind of stuff that it's going to ruin their Thanksgiving!
I get that.
But there is a way all this sordid news
should encourage you...
Because it confirms for us:
God knows what He's talking about when He tells us how to live our lives...
... And, we shouldn't be shy to apply His instructions for living to the
world around us.
God's Word makes it plain that He made us 'male and female' and that He designed sex to be enjoyed within the context of marriage (Gen.1:27, Heb.13:4).
No honest reading of the Bible can deny this.
But when we forsake it, there's a price to pay.
And this is being portrayed vividly in our lifetime.
Ever since the sex genie was let out of the bottle by rejecting God's standards for sexuality in the sixties, each decade has brought us increasing crops of rotten
fruit...
... in the form of pornography, fornication, adultery, homosexuality, sexually transmitted diseases, broken homes... and so on.
... and now -- as the news has been revealing -- there's been an abundant crop of sexual abuse as well.
Indeed, this is discouraging...
... It's painful to watch our culture reap what it's sown.
But take heart in the fact that all this reveals God knows what He's doing when he gives us direction about
sex.
And it's wise to apply it first -- by God's grace -- to our own lives.
But also to the culture we live in.
