It happens every
morning...
People wake up and the first thing they do is grab their phone to check for messages.
The practice isn't surprising... because we crave connectedness as humans.
The problem is, it usually isn't very fruitful... as it starts our day by responding to someone else's agenda, rather than initiating work on our
own...
... and, it reinforces the habit of checking our phones dozens of times during the day...
... which again, puts us in a constant response mode... that over time keeps us from doing the things God really wants us to do.
A more fruitful way to satisfy our hunger to connect is to start our day by connecting with our Maker
through prayer.
... and maintaining that connection throughout the day, as we check in with Him... instead of our phones.
Jesus tells us this is the kind of practice that leads to a fruitful life when He says...
"I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing" (Jn.15:5).
