Is the dominion mandate consistent with the gospel?

Published: Fri, 12/01/17

In the dominion mandate God calls us to rule and cultivate our place on the earth for Him (Gen. 1:28).

This call obviously involves obedience and effort. It requires work.

And this raises the question…

Does the effort required by the dominion mandate contradict the grace of the gospel?

Not at all.

The gospel redeems us so we can full God’s design for our lives.

And it frees us and empowers us to use our God-given energy and gifts to further His work in the world.

Author Dallas Willard put it well when he noted that grace is not opposed to effort, but to earning…

… and the New Testament is astonishingly energetic and filled with action.

May that same energy and action characterize your life today as the gospel does its work in you.
