By the time you hit middle age you've tried quite
a few things in life.
And if you're at all like me, a lot of these have flopped...
... while some have turned out pretty well.
Now here's the interesting thing...
When you try some idea, you never really know for sure what's going to work and what
isn't.
I know in my own life some of the ideas I had the most confidence in went nowhere.
Yet other, less optimistic efforts, got surprisingly good traction.
I guess this is why we need to follow the book of Ecclesiastes when it says:
"Sow your seed in the morning and do not be
idle in the evening, for you do not know whether morning or evening sowing will succeed, or whether both of them alike will be good" (Eccl.11:6).
People often take this section of Ecclesiastes to make the case for diversifying one's investment portfolio.
But this is really about more than investment advice...
It shows us
we need to expand our efforts in all areas of life... because we really don't know which ones God will bless.
