The Parable of the
Nobleman is a familiar one...
A certain nobleman goes off to a far country.
But before going, he entrusts his servants with some money...
... and directs them to do business with it until he comes back.
You remember that, right?
But did you ever notice why Jesus gave that parable?
The Bible tells us...
He did so because his hearers presumed -- wrongly -- that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately (Luke 19:11).
And Jesus wanted his disciples to be prepared to commit themselves to His work for the long
haul.
In a day when believers still tend to busy themselves speculating that Christ's return is imminent, this remains an important message for us.
We'd be far better busying ourselves with the work He's given us.
Or, as the old King James Version puts it, occupying till He comes (Luke 19:13).
