Do you find it hard
to take time off and rest for a day?
Does your work seem so important… or so in need of your attention… that you just can’t step away from it?
If so, you might want to consider something…
The Bible tells us after six days of creating, God rested (Gen. 2:2,3).
In doing so, He set
a pattern for us.
We know God takes this pattern seriously because He also commanded that we’re to work six days and add a day of rest (Ex.20:8-11).
By giving us a day of rest, God provides us time to worship and be renewed — not just spiritually, but emotionally, mentally and physically.
… So your day of rest may involve going to
church AND activities like taking a nap…
But there’s something else a day of rest gives us.
It gives us the opportunity to express our faith that ultimately the fruitfulness of our labors don’t depend on us. They depend on God’s blessing.
Looking at it a little differently…
Our
ability to rest is linked to our level of trust that God can bless us even when we’re not working.
That is… when we’re trusting that He’s got everything covered, it’s then we’re able to rest.
So work hard at whatever God calls you to do for six days.
But then recognize He also calls you to show your faith in Him by
resting.
