Hurricane preparations continue here.
And as they do, the Sermon on the Mount keeps coming to mind.
In this famous message Jesus expounds the values of His kingdom (Matthew 5-7).
He starts by telling us that those who are blessed in His kingdom are those who are… humble, merciful, hungry for righteousness…
Then… He says that those who identify
with His kingdom are the salt of the earth. And they let their light shine before men.
He also teaches us how to pray kingdom-oriented prayers.
And how we’re to deal radically with sin… in order to serve the Lord as Master of our lives.
There’s much more, too…
… like words about
judging… and how to treat others… and bearing good fruit…
… so be sure and read these few chapters if it’s been a while.
The sermon closes with a final exhortation…
It’s a call to show ourselves wise and act on what He’s told us…
… that we would apply what we
know…
… so we can stand when the fury of the wind and rain comes -- or when any day of reckoning comes.
These words of Jesus are always pertinent.
Always.
But the value of His message comes into sharper focus when we are tested… as with a brutal storm or other trial in
life.
The challenge, of course, is to see and live out the values of His kingdom every day… in the callings He’s given each of us.
It’s in this way His kingdom is built…
… and it reveals the kind of faith that prepares us to stand before Him on the last day.
