A follow-up to yesterday's post is in order...
There I noted that politics is full of false narratives... and that politicians, activists, and deep statists constantly use these false narratives to get an upper hand by duping the public.
This state of affairs raises a big question:
Should then people who
know and love the truth avoid politics altogether?
Many say 'yes'... arguing that politics is a 'dirty business.'
But politics -- due to the Fall -- has always been infested with scheming and trickery.
Yet, all through history God has used the political realm to further His kingdom.
Remember Joseph... and Moses... and Daniel... and Nehemiah?
Why... God even used a Persian king -- Cyrus -- to serve as His shepherd... to open doors for His people and move the redemption of the world further (Isaiah 45:1).
And... of course, the New Testament refers to those who govern the body politic as 'ministers of justice' (Romans
13).
So no... the answer to politics' corrupt ways is not for truth-abiding people to exit the playing field.
Politics -- with all its lying -- needs to be discipled...
... it needs the truth boldly applied.
... just like business and
education and health care -- and every other area of life -- need to apply the teachings of Jesus.
This certainly requires the wisdom of Solomon.
And those called to political activity need to be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.
But it's a work that needs to be done.
And God has given His grace and the Spirit so the work can be done.
