Is too much consuming keeping you from producing?

Published: Thu, 08/03/17

There’s something I’ve been pondering lately:

It’s sure a whole lot easier to spend your time consuming rather than producing.

Think about it…

Eating… a consumption oriented activity… comes easily, and is pleasurable.

While fixing the backyard fence… a production oriented activity… that’s work.

Or, take reading… another consumption activity. It’s enjoyable and relaxing.

Whereas writing a business proposal… that requires you to overcome some inertia.

Now, of course… consuming is a part of life… and necessary…

… you’ve got to eat and keep up with what’s going on in the world… and all that…

… but these — and other consumption oriented activities — don’t really accomplish anything.

To accomplish something — and fulfill your role in the dominion mandate by making the most of your calling — you’ve got to be stringing together activities that ultimately produce something of value.

This has become so clear to me that I keep an index card on my desk that simply reads: “production or consumption.”

I keep it there so I stay mindful of how I’m using my time.

You might want to do something similar… since consuming — not producing — tends to be our default activity.
