The Father's ordinary discipline...

Published: Mon, 08/14/17

What do you think of when you hear of a father disciplining his child?

... Perhaps using a paddle or wood spoon with a few swats to the backside?

That's surely a form of discipline.

But more ordinary, everyday discipline is much more basic...

... maybe even involving such simple things as saying "no" or "not now"... in order to bring a child to maturity.

Well...

I believe just as this is true of earthly fathers in the discipline they bring, so is it truth of our heavenly Father.

Yes, God may discipline us in a severe way for some flagrant disobedience.

But most the time He just withholds certain desires from us... as though He were saying, "no," "not yet," or "it's not the right time."

And this is a good thing to keep in mind as you envision yourself doing things to further the dominion mandate.

You may wonder why God isn't allowing you to use your gifts more fully to advance His kingdom...

... and it could be He's working to increase your discipline and maturity for a season of greater fruitfulness down the road.

So stay faithful with what He's given you to do now.

And be patient, too.

He's working out His purpose more than you think.
