I'm sure you've heard the hit song "Everybody Wants to Rule the World."
It was extremely popular in the 80s, and it's still often played today.
The song became well-liked -- as a lot of songs in the popular culture do -- by presenting a truth about life in an entertaining way.
... In this case, its lyrics about the quest for power set to a simple but catchy tune.
Whenever I hear the song, I can't help thinking... yes, everybody does want to rule the world...
... because that's the way God wired us.
He created us to
rule.
The problem is that sin has twisted that desire so we seek to rule our world for our own selfish ends... even if it means tyrannizing and abusing others.
But Christ has come to redeem the world... and He calls us to rule the world with Him...
... and do so not in a domineering, self-centered way...
... but by faithfully using our gifts... in loving service of others... to advance His kingdom.
See Ephesians 2:1-10 for more on this.
