Is misunderstanding holiness keeping you from faithfully engaging the world?

Published: Tue, 08/08/17

Pursuing holiness is a good thing.

Necessary too... because without it no one can see the Lord (Heb.12:14).

But confusion about the meaning of holiness can keep us from engaging the world as God calls us to.

How so?

Holiness carries the idea of separation.

Many take this to mean separation from the affairs of this world.

But this is a mistake...

... because the world is the venue where we fulfill our callings and prove our faithfulness.

Yes... we must separate from the evil practices of this world.

But isolating ourselves from the world is not what God has in mind (see 1 Cor.5:9-10).

If He did, how could we ever rule and cultivate the earth as He commanded?

So yes... separate yourself unto the Lord... and maintain your integrity.

But don't try to escape the world.

"The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it" (Ps.24:1).

And since it is, engage the world at every point God gives the opportunity... while bringing the values of His kingdom to bear.
