Ken Ham, the
co-founder of the Ark Encounter, has created quite a stir.
In case you hadn't heard, the Ark is now bathed in rainbow-colored lights at night.
Ham gave the reason for this when he tweeted:
‘Christians
need to take back the rainbow as we do @ArkEncounter — God owns it — He decreed it’s a sign of His covenant with man after the Flood.’
Ham also noted:
“Sadly, people ignore what God intended the rainbow to represent and proudly wave rainbow-colored flags in defiance of God’s command and design for
marriage. Because of this, many Christians shy away from using the rainbow colors. But the rainbow was a symbol of God’s promises before the LGBTQ movement — and will continue to be after that movement has ended. As Christians, we need to take the rainbow back and teach our young people its true meaning.”
Good for Ken Ham.
An important step toward ruling and cultivating the earth as God commanded is to see the world through His eyes.
And Ark Encounter's use of the rainbow helps promote that.
Also...
The rainbow was first used as a symbol of gay freedom in 1978, which is several millennia after God instituted the rainbow and gave it its meaning...
... as a sign of mercy that God will never again destroy the earth with a flood...
... so it only makes sense that
those with a biblical worldview would want to recover the accurate symbolism of these colors.
But there's something else to notice.
When God made His covenant with Noah and instituted the rainbow, He also reaffirmed the dominion mandate (Gen.9:1-10).
So with the rainbow, it's as if God is saying further:
I have given you grace... so now go fulfill My mandate.
Consider that next time you see God's bow in the sky.
