A few
years ago Bono, the lead singer of the group U2, gave several interviews where he proclaimed Christianity as his faith.
It was encouraging to hear.
Well, this week the news from U2 wasn't so encouraging, as it took a pro-abortion stance by voicing its support of an effort to repeal Ireland's pro-life 8th Amendment, which protects the life of the unborn.
The situation goes to show why you don't want to get your theology and ethics from pop stars.
There is probably no other group of people alive that is more eager to stay in favor with the masses than pop stars.
This, of course, makes them especially vulnerable to adopt the values of this world over the values of the kingdom of God.
So... while we should always be grateful for any pop star who speaks favorably of the gospel, we shouldn't make them out as Christian heroes... as is often done.
Instead, we should pray that they would grow in their ability to discern the truth and stand firm in their faith.
And we should make sure we're getting our own theology and ethics from the
Bible.
