How a Secret of Olympic Champions can Help You Fulfill Your Calling

In 1972 Lanny Bassham won a silver medal for the US Olympic Rifle Team.

Not bad... but for Bassham it was frustrating because he knew he should have won the gold -- if he hadn't have choked.

After Bassham got over his 'defeat,' he spent some time interviewing Olympic champions to find out what they had in common.

And he discovered an interesting secret...

When practicing and competing, Olympic champions don't focus on the outcome -- they focus on the process of what they are doing.

In other words... they absorb themselves in developing and executing their skills... and leave the outcome to itself.

This approach made sense to Bassham, so he adopted it... and it served him well... because in the 1976 summer Olympics he took home the gold medal.

As I thought about the idea of focusing on the process rather than the results, it made a lot of sense to me too...

And not just for Olympic champions...

But for anyone who wants to be faithful to God's calling on their life.

If we focus on the outcome of our efforts, it's easy to get discouraged...

Because so much of what you might desire an outcome to be depends on things totally out of your control.

So it's much better to just focus on executing what God has given you to do... to the best of your ability.

And trust the outcome to Him.
