After spending nearly fifty years researching why Russia fell to a communist revolution and suffered the death of sixty million people, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn came to a simple conclusion...
Men have forgotten God; that's why all this happened.
Solzhenitsyn's straightforward observation supplies the essential starting point for all who seek to be faithful warriors for truth and righteousness in our own time...
We must recover God in our thinking.
Now to make this practical, here are a few suggestions...
1) Get in the habit of looking to the Lord as the ultimate authority over everything.
Not government officials. Not college professors. Not the talking head on TV.
God.
2) Become more familiar with the Bible.
We have become a biblically illiterate society.
But as you absorb more and more of God's Word, you'll see more and more parallels with what's happening in our world today -- which will help you discern between good and evil, and know where and when to take a stand.
3) Make it a practice to apply what you understand about God's Word to the world around you.
In principle, the Bible speaks to any issue we might be forced to think about... including concerns about civil rulers, immigration policies, public health crises and more.
It may take a while for you to see the pertinent principles, but keep looking. They're there. And as you keep reading, you'll find them and gain confidence in applying them.
In addition to immersing yourself in biblical truth and applying it, there are certainly other essential elements for serving as an effective spiritual warrior in our times -- like prayer and faith.
But recovering the ability to think Christianly is a critical and overlooked place to start.
So work on taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5).
