I love hearing from my readers.
Partly because I like the feedback and interaction.
But also because I love my readers. All of them. Even if we've never met.
I really do!
Anyway...
Yesterday I wrote that Karl Marx had a point when he said "religion is the opiate of the masses"... because for a lot of believers their faith functions mainly like a drug that allows them to escape the hard realities of this world.
Well, a dear reader responded saying "this really gets at the shortfall in the church today..."
And noted further...
We want the peace of God's presence but are too afraid to be enlisted as His warriors.
Exactly.
And this is a real problem too.
You see...
Right after the Fall of mankind, God ordained there would be conflict between the righteous and the evil of this world (Gen.3:15).
And He didn't intend for us to go AWOL (absent without leave) in the battle!
He calls us to to contend for righteousness and disciple the nations... knowing this would be a struggle.
This is why:
- Jesus prayed NOT for the Father to take His followers out of the world, but to protect them from the evil one (Jn.17:5).
- The Apostle Paul gave instructions about putting on the full armor of God (Eph.6:10-18).
- And the Lord promises to be with us wherever He leads us (Josh.1:9; Mt.28:20).
By the way...
The call to serve as warriors is also why God's people on earth have been known as "the church militant."
So dear reader...
Don't retreat to your own little world from what's happening around you in these days.
Enlist yourself in the battle. Somewhere. Somehow.
God's peace is not to be found in laying down your weapons in the fight. It comes as we're faithful in the battles we find ourselves.
We'll talk a bit about what this looks like tomorrow.
