Way back in 1931 C.S. Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien had a conversation on the grounds of Magdalen College in England.
Lewis was an atheist at the time, and the two were discussing myths, lies and the nature of reality.
You can see a video portrayal of the conversation here:
In the discussion Tolkien argued living as a materialist is like living within the four walls of a prison... and misses the reality that we are a part of a larger story in a supernatural world.
It's believed this point helped Lewis come to trust Christ later that year.
And from there he went on to become one of the greatest defenders of the faith ever, mainly via his writings...
... and especially through his Narnia series -- which used a myth to communicate the reality of God's grand story -- and inspire millions.
So you might say... that 90 year old conversation not only changed the life of C.S. Lewis, it continues to change lives today.
And may it encourage you, as you remember how you too have a role in the larger story God is writing.
And your faithfulness in the part you play makes a difference.
