The spirit of individualism has affected us so much we tend to miss an important point:
The good news Jesus brings isn't so much a gospel of individual salvation as it is the gospel of His kingdom.
Yes, it's by personal faith we each receive the promise of eternal life -- which in itself is great news.
But the significance of the gospel reaches far beyond our reservations in heaven.
It includes partaking in the advance of His kingdom ... by living under His rule and bringing the influence of His reign wherever the Spirit gives us opportunity.
This is why Jesus began His ministry proclaiming "Repent, the kingdom of God is at hand" (Mk.1:15)...
... and why He went on to villages and cities "preaching the gospel of the kingdom" (Mt.9:35).
The fact Jesus's kingdom is already taking over this fallen and corrupt world makes the gospel far better news than most imagine.
