The other day a friend was telling me a bit of advice his mother gave him just before he was married.
The advice was: "Remember, your wife is not your buddy."
This is good input and something every married man should remember.
It's one thing for a man to treat his wife as a friend, as he should.
But that doesn't mean treating her like one of the guys in the locker room... snapping her with a towel and sharing crude jokes.
There's a glory of a woman that calls for a different level of treatment.
And when a man regards his wife on this level, she appreciates it.
In a day when men and women are viewed as interchangeable, this can be hard for some guys to grasp.
But remembering his wife is more than his buddy, is one of the best things a man can do for his marriage.
And it also provides a needed witness in a culture that doesn't seem to want to accept God made us male and female, with differences between the sexes.
'Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel...' (1 Pet.3:7).
