Prior to taking His last breath on the cross, Jesus uttered the words, "It is finished" (Jn.19:30).
What did He mean by that?
Well the words come from the accounting world and mean "paid in full."
So in saying it is finished, Jesus declares that through His death the debt owed the Father due to mankind's sin has been wiped away.
This doesn't mean though that the work God is doing in the world is finished.
That work continues by the Spirit through all those the Father calls to Himself.
So though Jesus's work is finished, ours is not.
And while His own mission is complete, ours continues on as long as the Father gives us breath.
And the only way to be faithful to our mission as Jesus was to His is to live our lives in Him.
I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me (Gal.2:20).
