This weekend a friend of mine is speaking at a conference entitled 'Make Christianity Great Again.'
You might find that title off-putting, but it's really fitting for our time.
In a day when the Christian faith has been pretty much reduced to a devotional hobby, we need to remember it's the greatness of Christianity that gave rise to so many blessings we take for granted.
Blessings such as:
- political liberty
- freedom of speech and the press
- educational opportunities
- economic development
- modern science and medicine
- human dignity and respect for women
To maintain these blessings, it's the great, all-encompassing nature of the Christian faith that needs to be recovered.
And there's no reason it can't be...
Jesus Christ remains Lord over all (Acts 2:36).
The Great Commission to disciple nations is still in force (Mt.28:18-20).
And the promises of the expansion of God's kingdom have never been repealed (Is.9:7, Lk.13:18-21).
Yes, Christianity might not appear so great today.
But how much of that is due to our unbelief, and our failure to apply all of God's Word to the world around us?
