I've noticed companies now have their customer service agents say 'be safe' at the conclusion of a call.
This happened to me again yesterday...
After taking care of business, the pleasant employee on the line finished the call by telling me to "Be safe."
Now after hearing this for the umpteenth time, my mind got pondering...
The Bible never commands us to be safe.
It tells us to...
Be exceeding glad (Mt. 5:12)
Be reconciled to a brother (Mt. 5:24)
Be wise as serpents (Mt. 10:16)
Be harmless as doves (Mt. 10:16)
Be ready for Christ's coming (Mt. 24:44)
Be content with your wages (Lk. 3:14)
Be merciful as God is merciful (Lk. 6:36)
Be like faithful servants (Lk. 12:36)

Be transformed (Rom 12:2)
Be fervent in spirit (Rom. 12:11)

Be afraid, if lawless (Rom. 13:4)
Be no idolater (1 Cor. 10:7)

Be a partaker of Christian sufferings (2 Tim.1:8)
Be gentle to all people (2 Tim. 2:24)
Be apt to teach (2 Tim. 2:24)
Be careful to maintain good works (Tit. 3:8,14)
Be content with what you have (Heb. 13:5)
Be doers of the Word (Jas 1:22)

Be sober (1 Pet. 5:8)
Be vigilant (1 Pet. 5:8)
Be mindful of prophecies and commandments (2 Pet. 3:2)
Be diligent to be blameless (2 Pet. 3:14)
Be faithful to death (Rev. 2:10)
Be watchful and strong (Rev. 3:2)
Be zealous and repent (Rev. 3:19)
The Bible commands us to 'be' all these things.
But funny thing... it never tells us to 'be safe.'
Kind of makes you wonder...
What would our world would be like if we encouraged one another with a few of these biblical commands, instead of the now common but uninspiring admonition to 'be safe'?
