One of my favorite Christmas carols is 'Joy to the world' by Isaac Watts.
The third verse is especially great:
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.
What makes this verse so robust is the reason it gives for joy at Christmas...
Which is that even though our world is totally afflicted by the curse of sin, Jesus came to undo it.
And like one big tsunami the blessings He brings will ultimately wash away the curse wherever it is found -- not just in our own hearts, but in every human activity, and even all of nature.
We can be sure of this because He rules the world with truth and grace... and is making the nations prove the glories of His righteousness.
Now doesn't that make you want to sing of the wonders of His love?!
