A well-known theologian is fond of saying "Heaven is important, but it's not the end of the world."
These words make an important point...
Indeed, all who have their hope in Christ can look forward to being with Him in heaven -- but that doesn't mean there's no longer a place for the world.
The earth is still the Lord's (Ps.24:1).
And His original commission to rule and cultivate it for Him remains (Gen.1:28;2:15).
Not only that... the Bible promises the making of a new heavens and a new earth (Is.65:17).
From these truths, be assured: what you do in this world matters.
And as His image-bearers we're still called to work it and develop it for Him.
This means applying His Word to everything we encounter on earth in a way that pleases Him and furthers His kingdom.
And this involves every realm of our existence... starting with the family, church and community... but also including areas such as education, business, the arts, sciences, technology, government, law and so on. Even politics!
They're all to be put in service to the Lord.
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God"
(1 Cor.10:31).
