People seem touchier than ever these days.
Some of it comes from being weary of Covid and politics.
But even deeper I think it's due to our society's deficiency of grace and faith.
I'm not sure how to quantify it, but I believe it's fair to say grace and faith are at historic low levels.
And in this graceless and faithless environment, people feel more inclined to need to prove they're right...
... which leads to a more defensive and argumentative spirit... and shows up in everything from disagreements at home to road rage.
The good news of the gospel, on the other hand, is that our righteousness -- or rightness -- comes from Christ.
Or as the Apostle Paul put it... we don't have a righteousness of our own coming from God's law, but from God on the basis of faith (Phil.3:9).
One of the great things about this is you don't have to bother proving you're right. Or worry how others view you.
You can rest in knowing your righteousness is secure through faith in Christ.
And this really frees you up, too...
So instead of wasting your energy and attention making sure others see you as right, you can focus on the work God has given you in His kingdom.
