Many Christians like to stay above the fray when it comes to politics.
They take the position that politics is a dirty business we ought to avoid.
But politics is just one of many areas in God's world where we're called to incarnate the grace and truth of the gospel.
It's part of discipling the nations and being a city on a hill.
Unfortunately, we can trace much of the turmoil surrounding political issues today to the fact millions of American Christians have never been been taught about the biblical role and limits of civil government.
There hasn't been much teaching about the need for righteousness to preserve a nation either.
This has empowered the unbelieving world to seize issues important to God - like justice - and twist them in ways contrary to His Word.
And as the prophet Hosea says, we end up being destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hos. 4:6).
Now would be a good time to address this void of understanding by helping God's people develop political convictions based on what the Bible says.
This should have happened a long time ago. But better late than never.
