I see that former congressman and Olympian Jim Ryun received the presidential Medal of Freedom last week.
Ryun is best known for being the first high schooler to run the mile in under four minutes.
But he also has a reputation for being a humble and big-hearted regular guy.
When Ryun received his medal last week he shared a story back from his junior high days.
He told how he went to bed praying, "God, my resume is not good. I'd like it to be something. I feel like you've had a plan for my life. And by the way, if it could show up in sports, I'd really appreciate it."
Well God certainly showed up for Jim Ryun. And I can't help but think some of it had to do with the way he brought his specific desire before the Lord in a way that depended on Him.
It's a good reminder...
If God's been laying on your heart some way he might use you, talk to Him about it.
Don't be afraid to ask specifically that it would be fulfilled either.
"And this is the confidence that we have toward Him, that if we ask anything according to his will He hears us" (1 Jn.5:14).
