This continues the series on good coming from COVID-19...
Some interesting news has come out about COVID-19.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 94 percent of those who have died from the infection also had underlying health conditions.
The CDC report also makes it clear those at the greatest risk of dying from COVID are in old age.
No one should conclude from this that COVID-19 hasn't been a real or serious concern to the general population. It has.
And, those studying this report are still debating the significance of the numbers.
But I think it's safe to say the experts have been off the mark on COVID-19.
Just a few months ago we were warned the number of deaths from COVID might hit 2.2 million in the U.S.
Thankfully, it looks as though we'll be way short of that -- by about 2 million.
All this shows we need to be careful how much confidence we put in the opinion of experts.
And we shouldn't allow their pronouncements to paralyze us with fear. Because experts are often wrong.
Just think... how often has the erroneous words of an expert struck fear in your heart to the extent it caused you to needlessly change your course of action?
None of this means we shouldn't listen to experts. Experts can be right too. In life saving ways.
But we should not be gullible. We should be discerning.
Or as the Bible says... we should examine all things, hold fast to what is good, and stay away from every form of evil (1 Thess.5:21,22).
Above all, keep your faith in God.
If COVID-19 helps us take more responsibility over what we hear, it will be a very good thing.
