This email continues my series on the good that's come from COVID-19.
When God created us and gave us the Dominion Mandate, He made us to be scientists.
That's because in order to rule and cultivate the earth, we must acquire knowledge and discover truths about the world.
This makes science a noble endeavor, as we seek to glorify God and serve others.
But science isn't ultimate.
We need to note this because as society becomes more secular, it looks to science as a neutral source of truth. And scientists themselves have taken on an almost godlike status.
This is unwarranted.
Science has its limits... and our experience with COVID-19 reveals this.
For example...
… what we know about the nature and future behavior of the coronavirus is limited
… there remain doubts about the effectiveness, timeliness and safety of a vaccine
… and there's still no research proving masks actually work to slow the spread of the virus
None of this diminishes the work scientists are doing to understand and address COVID-19.
But these facts do show the limits of science.
And realizing these limits is a good thing... in that it keeps us humble and faithful to the One in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col.2:3).
In short, science makes a good servant, but it shouldn't become our master.
