Yesterday I began sharing some of the items on my 'good that's come from coronavirus' list.
Let's take a look at another one today: the coronavirus has made it clear the state doesn't make a good substitute for God.
Since the 60s the U.S. has no longer recognized God as the basis of society -- at least in an official way.
I say the 60s because that's when Bible reading and prayer were taken out of public schools... paving the way for a godless future.
Since that time, the state has increasingly replaced God as the ultimate source of provision, well-being, power, authority, etc.
The state, though, doesn't make a good replacement for God.
The infamous and horrible 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion made this clear enough.
But now, faced with a virus we can't control... and all the upheaval that's come with it... it's clearer than ever that looking to an elite group of leaders as though they are God will fail us.
And I see this as a very good thing...
... because it's only in realizing the state is not our savior that we'll return to the true Lord of all.
Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
(Psalm 100:3)
