Back in 1983 a bearded Russian gave a warning to the West.
His name was Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, a novelist. And he gave his warning from experience.
You see, Solzhenitsyn spent several years in the Soviet gulag for exposing the corruption, cruelty and injustice of the communist regime.
Once out of the gulag, Solzhenitsyn traveled and spoke about how atheistic communism and tyranny took hold in the Soviet Union.
He answered the common question: "How did this happen?"
His explanation was straightforward.
He simply said, “Men have forgotten God; that’s why all this has happened.”
And then he would go on to warn if we forget God in the West, lawlessness and tyranny would reign here as well.
Solzhenitsyn's words haunt us as we look at American culture today.
But they also bring clarity to the need of the moment:
We must remember God.
Undoubtedly America has sunk to the place it's in because it has forgotten God.
Yet as complicated as things may seem, our recovery from all that ails us begins by remembering Him.
Remember God in what He has given you to do today.
"Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me" (Isa.46:9).
