A lot of good people are at a loss to explain the breakdown of our culture around us.
But part of the explanation is that the church and other Christian ministries haven't done a great job applying the gospel to the culture.
We're strong when it comes to teaching it takes grace to get to heaven.
And we tend to consistently apply the gospel to family and congregational life.
But when it comes to dominant cultural issues -- like those having to do with justice, gender and economics -- we're largely silent.
Conservative churches and ministries in particular seem to avoid these issues.
Perhaps this out of a desire to avoid controversy...
... or from a false assumption that the gospel doesn't apply to these areas.
But whatever the reason, failing to give solid, biblical instruction about the issues people are facing leaves them ill-equipped and demoralized.
And, it withholds the exact truth our culture needs to restore it to good health.
If nothing else, hopefully the upheaval of the past months will help believers and ministry leaders embrace a more culturally-applied gospel.
'The earth is the LORD'S and all it contains; The world and those who dwell in it' (Ps.24:1).
