Remember baseball?
Yesterday I was recalling memories of the game, going all the way back to the playing days of my childhood.
And I remembered my dad's constant bit of guidance:
"Keep your eyes on the ball."
He must have said it a thousand times... to help both my hitting and fielding...
... it was always, "keep your eyes on the ball."
Well, similar advice could be given about living in our current corona crisis:
"Keep your eyes on the Lord."
With all our concerns about... staying well... the health of the economy... press updates... loss of civil liberties... conspiracy theories, etc... it is so easy to lose sight of the big picture...
... and forget that in all that's happening God is still ruling and working to advance His kingdom.
So we have to keep our eyes on Him.
If we don't, we'll forget the big picture... and His call on our lives.
And we'll be vulnerable to all kinds of fears and get distracted from the good work He wants us doing TODAY.
We'll expend a lot of energy... and take a lot of swings at what we think is important... but miss the really good things we could be planning for the future and doing right now.
So... keep your eyes on the Lord.
There are so many matters out of your control, and so much that is changing.
But our sovereign God has got them all.
And He's got something worthwhile for you to do today.
So keep the big picture... keep your eyes on Him... and enjoy what He's appointed for you as you trust in Him.
"Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually" (1 Chron.16:11).
