Last week I mentioned I started keeping a list of the good things that could come from the coronavirus.
The list keeps growing.
And last night I thought of another possible positive outcome: a greater appreciation for -- and even unity with -- others.
America has been a divided country for years.
But the coronavirus has revealed our common vulnerability.
It's humbled us, en masse.
Our shared frailty -- of course -- goes all the way back to the Fall of mankind, and the ensuing curse that brought all kinds of misery on humanity (Gen.3).
But the afflictions we face together today sharply point to the need we all have for a Savior who would bring redemption.
So when humbling comes... as it is right now... there's hope that the pride which creates division would also be brought low...
... leading to a greater recognition of our common bond as souls in need of God's grace and mercy.
Let's pray this kind of outcome would come.
God is certainly capable of using our current trial to work in hearts and bring such a good thing about.
"Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble'" (1 Pet.5:5).
