Some are wondering...
Is God angry with us?
Well to answer that, first consider... God has many aspects to His character.
On the one hand... He is holy (1 Sam.2:2), good (Ps. 145:9) and loving (1 Jn.4:16), etc.
Yet on the other hand... He is jealous for what is right (Ex.34:14), He hates what is evil (Pr.6:16-19), and He's angry with the wicked every day (Ps.7:11).
(Did you know the Bible says that?)
So God's character is full and robust.
AND -- this is important -- He always applies His attributes perfectly. He is always just.
One way to think about this is from the perspective of God as the ideal father.
As our Father in heaven, God loves us.
But He also intervenes for our good... which sometimes involves pain... like the pain of discipline.
The Bible addresses this specifically when it says...
"My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives. It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?" (Heb.12:5-8).
So in answer to the question about God being angry with us... I'm not inclined to quickly say yes.
BUT I do believe He is chastening us.
And the only way to respond to that is with humble and repentant hearts... leading to a life of humble and faithful obedience.
And what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)
