During the Cold War (1945-1990) most world leaders feared the Soviet Union was an unstoppable force.
But Ronald Reagan saw things differently. He believed the Soviets could be defeated because they... as one author put it... "loved the wrong things."
In other words... Reagan knew the Soviet's love of their military buildup and centralized power was no match for the love of freedom.
A lot of people thought Reagan was crazy, but he was right.
And by leading America to take a strong stand on righteous principles, the 'Evil Empire' collapsed.
The need to love the right things applies to more than just geopolitics.
It applies to our own lives too.
When we love the wrong things, we're compromised and become weak, causing us to lose.
But when we love the right things, we become strong. We endure. And through Christ we're on the winning side of history.
This is why God's Word warns us not to love worldly things... because they pass away (1 Jn.2:15-17).
And it's why the Bible promises those who love God and walk in righteousness will receive the crown of life and an inheritance in His kingdom (Jas. 1:12;2:5).
So watch over your heart and love what is good!
Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful but pays back in full the one who acts in pride (Ps.31:23).
