Good news!
Despite all the division that exists these days, there are some significant things we Westerners agree on.
We agree, for example, that:
- Slavery is evil
- Human sacrifice is horrible
- Basic human rights belong to everyone
- Concern for the poor is humane
- And quality health care and education should be accessible to as many people as possible
We tend to take these things for granted... as marks of a compassionate and civilized society.
But it hasn't always been that way.
In an earlier age...
Slavery and human sacrifice affected millions.
The poor were treated as inhuman.
And basic human rights belonged only to a small, select group of people.
So what changed?
And why is it today we hold these basic aspects of humanity as self-evident?
In a word, it's the gospel.
It's because believers for centuries have applied the grace and truth of the gospel in such a way it's already deeply transformed our world.
So next time you're tempted to despair of world conditions... or feel ashamed of the gospel in our modern world... or hide your light under a bushel...
...consider how far we’ve come... and how we got here.
And fulfill the calling God has given you to make your mark for Him and His kingdom in your own time.
