News is out that Chick-fil-A will no longer provide charity funding to a couple of large ministries -- the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The reason?
Apparently Chick-fil-A no longer wants to be connected to Christian ministries that may be labeled as 'anti-LBGT' by LBGT activists... even if all these ministries are doing is holding to traditional and biblical views of gender, marriage, sexuality, etc.
For many of its loyal customers and supporters, this is a surrender of Chick-fil-A's core principles, and a huge disappointment.
To add to the disappointment... Chick-fil-A will be funding a pro-LBGT activist organization called Covenant House International.
Now I don't know if Chick-fil-A failed to do its homework on this or what.
And I assume the story may not be over.
But one thing is for sure...
When Christians -- or Christian organizations -- back away from their core convictions to appear more neutral, they usually don't end up in a winning position.
This is because...
... adversaries won't be satisfied until you fully adopt their viewpoint.
... friends feel disheartened and betrayed.
... And the Lord Himself must wonder, are you for me or against me?
In a day when there's a lot of cultural pressure on Christians to compromise their beliefs, more of us will be forced to choose in consequential ways who it is we really serve.
And when that time comes, it's worth remembering that giving up your core convictions never turns out well.
