In his excellent study, the Person of Jesus, Paul Miller uses the story of "The Widow of Nain" to show a threefold pattern in Jesus' ministry:
He looks > He feels compassion > and He acts.
That's a pattern worth noting.
Too often we fail to look and see what's happening with the people around us.
Or if we see, we don't feel compassion. We might even feel contempt.
And even if we do feel compassion, we're hesitant to do anything to act.
But as we seek to be transformed by following Jesus, we pick up His pattern as well.
And God uses that pattern of looking, feeling and acting to accomplish the purpose He has for our lives.
This might be as simple as lending a helping hand... or creating a business that meets a need.
It all starts with looking... through different eyes.
