I remember as a kid watching the movie 'Tora! Tora! Tora!', a dramatic retelling of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
If I recall, the movie portrayed the Japanese in subhuman fashion... which isn't surprising, since it's common to dehumanize wartime enemies.
I mention this because I recently learned the lead attack pilot for the Imperial Japanese Navy eventually became a Christian and an evangelist, travelling all across the Orient telling others about the One who changed his life.
And, in his book 'From Pearl Harbor to Golgotha' he reveals his humanity when he shares his regret for slaughtering so many in the name of patriotism, not knowing the love of Christ at the time.
In our own day, when it's common to dehumanize those of another race or viewpoint, it's worth remembering the re-humanizing power of the gospel.
And see those we might view as different -- or even as enemies -- as those who are equals in that we all need the same transforming grace of God.
