Every once in awhile I'm reminded there are people who have an aversion to the word dominion.
I suppose it's because dominion is related to the word dominate... which in the minds of some brings up images of somebody exercising abusive power over another.
But rightly understood, God's call to dominion is nothing like this. It's not oppressive.
While it's the way of the world to try and lord it over others, God's way is something entirely different...
His way is a way of service.
And we live in this way as we submit ourselves to Him... and together use the gifts He's given us to rule and develop the world for His glory.
Understood this way there's nothing wrong with the word dominion at all.
It's challenging -- yes -- because it reminds us of our responsibility to use all He's entrusted to us for His kingdom.
But for those who embrace the responsibility, dominion is a word that inspires... as it reminds us the King of kings has called us to partake in His rule over creation.
