One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Genesis 1:26.
In fact, it's the foundation of the posts I write!
The verse reads:
'Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”'
The reason I like this verse so much is it makes clear our identity and purpose in this life.
As to our identity... we're made in God's image and likeness.
That's who we are.
And our purpose... we're to rule over the earth for Him.
That's what we're supposed to do.
Interestingly, both identity and purpose are big issues today.
They are areas where people struggle.
People today are unsure of who they are... so they have questions about their identity.
And, people are uncertain about their purpose... so they wonder what they're to be doing with their lives.
To have doubts or questions in these areas is to wonder why you get up in the morning.
And it shows how important what God has revealed to us in one verse of the first chapter of the Bible can really be.
God has made it clear who you are.
You are a bearer of His image. You share His likeness.
And He has also made it plain why you are here.
You're to manage and develop the part of creation He's entrusted to you.
And as you answer the call to follow Jesus you are renewed in that identity and purpose every day.
Get Dominion,
