Practically every addiction arises from anxiety.
Whether it's an addiction to alcohol, drugs, eating or pornography, they all tend to take hold the same way -- as a repeated method of coping with anxiety.
But instead of relieving anxiety, these methods actually compound it...
... and they sap both the body and spirit of strength... leaving little vitality left to fulfill the callings God gives us.
So instead of relying on substances to relieve our anxieties, we need to rely on God Himself.
And we do this by...
... remembering how he cares for even the birds of the air and lilies of the field...
... not worrying about tomorrow, but taking one day at a time...
... and humbling ourselves under God's mighty hand, and casting all our anxiety on Him.
When we respond to our anxieties in this way, we're able to navigate the complexities of our lives as we pursue the good He wants us to do.
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Phil.4:6).
